Hometown guy Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games) heads back to Vancouver for a role later this month in the thriller Final Girl.
First-time feature director Tyler Shields also cast another Hunger Games actor, Wes Bentley, for the story about a high school girl (Abigail Breslin) who turns the tables on a group of sadistic boys.
Ludwig, meanwhile, has been a busy guy since his turn as the nasty, doomed Cato in Hunger Games. He was riding high when we talked to him last spring:
Since then he’s co-starred alongside Adam Sandler and company in a sequel to Sandler’s comedy Grown Ups, after which he worked with director Peter Berg and actors Mark Wahlberg, Eric Bana, Emile Hirsch and Taylor Kitsch on the based-on-fact war drama Lone Survivor.
The independently-produced Final Girl is set for a month’s filming.

Looking further ahead, Vancouver’s big-movie filming drought appears set to end next March, when the producers of Warner Brothers’ Godzilla remake come to town. The gothic thriller Seventh Son, which wrapped in June with Jeff Bridges, and the fantasy sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, which wrapped in July, were the most recent big-studio features to set up shop here.
Godzilla casting is yet to be announced, but director Gareth Edwards comes from a visual effects background and earlier helmed the fabulously gritty tourists-meet-aliens feature Monsters, which turned out like this:
I’m pumped. As well, the new Godzilla’s story is by David S. Goyer, who has genre/comic book cred for miles (Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel).
So no campy humour, I’m guessing. Godzilla is set for a 2014 release.
